Tommy2shoe811 Class 234 (The documentary class) graduated just before 9/11, they were in SQT on 9/11. Also, I’ve heard retired SEALs say in interviews that they have 3-5 Bud/s classes a year. Phase one is 7 weeks long, so I’m assuming every 7 or 8 weeks a new class starts.

It is filmed a few years prior to when it was released I have a buddy that went through class 244 and it doesn’t match up with this being the year 2000 (assuming there are 2 classes a year).

For a seal to get their Trident they have to complete BUDs and then complete a longer course that is about 26-28 weeks long. So a total of 50 weeks of training to get the trident. Then when you get into a team its another year or more of training before being deployed somewhere for your first mission. There is also training courses that you have to complete before even entering BUDs. Which adds up to about 65 weeks of total training for a trident.

Hey Austen! Very much impressed by all the hard work these guys go through. Have a great deal of respect for the Navy Seals. Another good training video, which I have seen are the Gurgas. They are apart of the British army. Incredible. They have been in Afghanistan. Thank you for your service to our country. My ex-sister-in-law served in the Navy, and she was head nurse in ICU at Great Lakes Naval Base. Her husband also was in the Navy. Got married in the chapel at Great Lakes, which I was there for. God Bless to you.

So it’s probably already been said in the comments but the reason you saw BM 1 was because back in the day before they had the SO rate, they took SEALs from a core group of ratings -,if you happen to have the right specific rating you were eligible to go and test to be a SEAL. Interestingly enough, even though you were a SEAL, before the SO rating you also had a test in whatever your base rate was to advance in the Navy. I went into the Navy in 1975 , SEALs were relatively unknown and certainly not talked about the way they are today. They actually had a SEAL come to our Navy Boot Camp Looking for volunteers who might want to take the seal admittance test. I decided on a lark to give it a try. I failed miserably of course because I had no idea of what to expect, no preparation. Also you are correct SEALs did not get their trident until they arrived at their command, unlike today where they get to try and immediately upon finishing BUDS

Before the introduction of the new "ratings": SO, SB, EOD, & ND in June 2006, a sailor must have the "Source Rating" before going to those training. That instructor had the "Source Rating" of BM [BM1 (SEAL) to be exact], which would have been changed to "SO1" after June 2006. Or the BMC (at around 10:42) would have been changed to SOC. My Source Rating was AO (even though, I was working as an EOD Tech.), but then, I switched to EOD after June 2006.
SV 2 месяца назад
@John Courtenay : Additionally, Army established 3 companies of EOD (Airborne), where it sent its EOD to Jump School & Tactical Training (or whatever they call it), so it can send its own techs. to be attached to Army SF & 75th Rangers (but Army EOD (Airborne) still doesn't do diving or underwater ordnance) . That free up Navy EOD to have more techs. to support Navy fleets and other Navy & Marine units.
SV 2 месяца назад
@John Courtenay : I am sure that things have changed since then. Perhaps, there are more techs. now, especially, since Iraq War is over. You can tell about the manning level by looking at the amount of Enlistment Bonus that is given out (or better, look at the advancement list). When the Navy needs people, it gives out more money. In 1999 (when I enlisted), EOD offered $20,000 Enlistment Bonus (and max. Re-enlistment Bonus was $80,000) In mid-2000's, EOD offered $40,000 Enlistment Bonus (and max. Re-enlistment Bonus was $125,000) Around 2010, EOD offered $12,000 Enlistment Bonus (and max. Re-enlistment Bonus was $90,000) Around 2015-16, EOD offered $8,000 Enlistment Bonus (and max. Re-enlistment Bonus was $75,000) I don't know how much the Navy is giving out nowadays.
John Courtenay
John Courtenay 2 месяца назад
Navy Crab I can imagine the tempo is higher since every unit needs a EOD tech
SV 2 месяца назад
@John Courtenay : Here is a Fun Fact that was passed on to me by the old timers (and now, I am an old timer that is passing on the info. to you). Back in the '80's-early '90's, the Navy used to have the "Twin Pin" Program, where the SEALs could crossover to EOD and vice versa. Surprisingly, the majority of the people who did that were SEALs to EOD, because the OPTEMPO for EOD back then was much better than the other way around. When you grow older and have family, then your priority may change. You may want to try to spend as much time at home with your wife & kids, instead of going around playing Rambo overseas.
SV 2 месяца назад
@John Courtenay : No, and I didn't want to either. First, the Green Team only wants techs. with a lot of experience already (Senior or Master EOD); Basic techs. tend to not have enough experience and/or knowledge to be attached to them. I was in during 2 major wars, where IED's became the number 1 killer of the troops overseas ('99-'09) and the military in all branches did not have as many techs. to send out, so the rotation for us getting sent on deployments became more frequent. I wouldn't have enough time to prepare to tryout for the Green Team anyway. And besides working, I was already busy enough in trying to study for the qualifications/re-qualifications, Rating Exams, and later on, after I got my Senior Badge, I was also taking college classes while I was on Active Duty. The OPTEMPO for DEVGRU tends to be even worse than EODMU, so I was not interested in it.

From what I know from my friends who successfully went through BUDS back in the early 2000s, its only the first step. Then you have to go through all the terrain training (air, land, deep sea), POW, and such which takes about a year before they get their "Trident". I myself went through SAR training, which some BUDS drop outs go to when they still want to do some form of special forces involving water (since the water survival part is about the same).

There were some changes to the training course over the years their training is now 2.5 years that’s included with the qualification test and now after hell week there is a second training program where the seal recruit are transported to a different state and they take them to a great white shark breeding ground at night and have to survive there for three days I think they also have upgraded there hand to hand combat and tactical training course which it’s cqc and infantry range they also have a marksmen class as well, if you want to know the deadliest best of the best stated world wide and highly classifieds denied by president from there existent but leaked very little information that was 10 years or so ago they are know as the unit, task force green, and of course delta There is like a 2-5 minute video on the training course that was maybe 6 years ago or so but looks 90sish but explains what delta is not what they do

15:23 after BUD/s, they go to Army Airborne school and other schools, and they'll have to pass SQT ( SEAL Qualification Training) in where they have to demonstrate everything they learned, than they'll get their trident. So after BUD/s its about another year before they earn their trident.
